Dr. Galen Walter Heyne was a lifelong learner. He was passionate about his work and passionate about supporting the staff he worked with. The people he worked with in clinics knew he truly cared about their well-being.
Dr. Galen earned his bachelor’s in biology, his master’s in microbiology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine all at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a respected published researcher and was honored to be the class speaker at his graduation from the School of Veterinarian Medicine. Galen’s love of science, music and family defined his life. He was a devoted husband and father.
Dr. Galen was known for his empathy as well as his intellect at both Wisconsin Community Veterinary Center and Badger Hospital. He was known as a “work horse” and offered his “endless book of knowledge” to anyone hungry to learn. People remember him as compassionate, generous, and kind.
This scholarship has been established in memory of Dr. Galen Walter Heyne. As one of his veterinary technicians said:
“I am better because I knew him, I am smarter because he taught me, I am better because he touched my life in so many ways.”
